Port Lands Soil Recycling Facility

The Port Lands soil recycling plant is a pilot facility which treats contaminated soil, so that it can be potentially reused in future – mostly commercial – applications instead of ending up in a landfill.  These facilities are readily used in Europe, but are not as common in North America.  This pilot facility has two competing environmental contractors, Stuyvesant and DEC, who process the soil and test the viability and effectiveness of their technologies as well as their environmental impact before a full scale facility is developed.
